Last fall I decided that I was no longer going to use bags from the grocery store. Since then, with the exception of two unplanned mall outings and a trip to target where I decided at the last minute that I needed draino and didn’t want it to get on my fruits/veggies (I don’t get the clear plastic baggies for those either!) I haven’t brought one plastic baggy home.
I started buying recycled paper products like toilet paper and paper towels. I recycle everything that I can. I never throw away scraps of paper. I wash Styrofoam to-go containers and recycle them instead of throwing them away.
I’m not the best though, I know that. There are a million more things I could be doing. For instance: my sister, Beth, out-hippies me. The other day she tore off half of a paper towel to cover the food she was heating. When she was done she used the same paper towel to wipe down the counter. And THEN she used the same paper towel to write her shopping list on.

I knew mom liked her best for a reason.
